Calyspo uses the story of the Greek nymph Calypso to reach out to anyone who feels constrained and yearns for human connection. The true story is derived from Homer’s Odyssey where Calypso is an enchantress who tries to retain Odesseus in her island. However, this song follows a popular spin on the lore by the American author Rick Riordan where Calyspo is cursed by the Gods to be imprisoned in her island endlessly. Every now and then a hero washes ashore her island; but just as she rescues them and begins to fall in love, they venture back into the ocean they came from, leaving her feeling more alone than ever.
Let the waves lap by my side
The sand and dust fall asleep
I’ll be waiting all night long
For a lonely ship to come.
Let the gods cry their outrage
And the stars shatter upon this isle
but when evening roses
Wake up to hear my song…
In my dreams, on those reams
I’ve been staging a play
For a thousand years now,
And there he comes, takes my hand,
Looks into those sad blue eyes, saying-
I know your just worried that I’ll say that I don’t like you,
Scared to say I’m lovely lest I break like an illusion,
When the Gods above you, hear out your desire.
But you maybe Calypso
Yet I won’t leave here without you,
Oh, calypso.
In this land where I’m stranded
Diamonds blossom from the plants
Trust me when I say I’ve built,
A marble paradise
Just for us to dance hand in hand.
And pretending, You’re in this land
I’m dancing under the moon –
the only watching eyes
But I want watching eyes,
I’ve been writing my lies-
That you rode on the waves,
to look me in, in my eyes,
and brush off that yearning away saying-
I know you’re just worried I will never drown in love with u,
Scared to watch me blown away again by those (wild) west winds,
Watch the raging ocean take me back the way I came
But you maybe Calypso
Yet I won’t leave here without you,
Oh, calypso.
I’ve been waiting for
For a thousand years
But how many more
Illusions must i see
Cause all I ever hear
Is a voice from the sky
Singing for my tears
A mother’s lullaby
I know you’re just aching for someone to hold you tight and close
Someone who can find your missing halves and put them back to use
Someone who will hold your hand and promise not to lose
I know you feel alone sometimes
So I wrote for you this little rhyme
Reminding you from time to time
I’m here for you Calypso
